Certifications & Sustainability
Our Certifications & Sustainability Commitments
At NEMUWA, every claim we make is backed by verifiable standards. This page documents the certifications, sourcing practices, and environmental commitments that underpin every product we make.
GOTS — Global Organic Textile Standard
All NEMUWA cotton products are made from GOTS-certified organic cotton. GOTS is the world's leading textile processing standard for organic fibres, covering everything from harvesting through dyeing and finishing — including social criteria at all production stages.
- No toxic pesticides or synthetic fertilisers at farm level
- Traceability from farm to finished product
- Third-party certification audited annually
- Strict limits on permitted chemical inputs at every processing stage
GOTS certification is verified independently. To check certified entities, visit global-standard.org.
Natural & Botanical Dyes
NEMUWA uses no synthetic dyes. All colour treatments use botanical and low-impact dye processes that are:
- Free from azo dyes, formaldehyde, and heavy metals
- Biodegradable and safe for waterways
- Gentler on skin — important for sleep textiles in direct contact with the body
European Linen — Sustainable Sourcing
Our linen is sourced from small family mills in Western Europe, where flax cultivation has a centuries-long tradition. European linen requires no irrigation and minimal pesticide use. Our mill partners are selected for their commitment to traditional craft and environmental stewardship.
Made in Japan — Kurume, Fukuoka
Every NEMUWA product is woven and finished in Kurume, Fukuoka — one of Japan's most respected textile regions. Kurume weaving traditions date back over 200 years. By manufacturing locally within Japan, we reduce intercontinental transport emissions and support skilled local craftspeople.
Carbon-Neutral Shipping
We offset 100% of the carbon emissions from every shipment worldwide. This is not a future commitment — it is the standard on every order placed today.
Packaging
All NEMUWA packaging is made from recycled and compostable materials. We are working toward eliminating all single-use plastics from our supply chain by 2027.
Our Promise
Sustainability is not a marketing feature at NEMUWA. It is the cost of doing business the right way. We will continue to raise our standards and publish updates here as we achieve new milestones.
